We’ve been exploring the topic of spirit guides lately- what they are, what their purpose is, and how to develop a clear line of communication with them. Learning how to hear the voice of my guides completely changed my life for the better. And while I have a particularly strong connection with my guides, really it’s something anyone can learn to do over time and with consistent practice.

Speaking of spirits on the other side, Christine and I had an interesting experience recently. She’d been down with the flu and was quarantining in our guest room. On the last night of her quarantine, when I brought dinner down to her, she told me she’d been hearing some light tapping at the door a few times over the past week.

At the time, she’d been so sick, she didn’t really think much about it other than to notice it and think it a little odd. But as I was bringing her dinner in, she said someone was tapping on the door about 10 minutes prior. She thought it was me and told me to come in. But when I didn’t respond, she got up to open the door and see what was happening, and of course there was no one there.

As she was telling me that, I remembered that just the other night I saw a shadow moving in a corner of the downstairs back hallway. We’ve heard from several guests who’ve said they sensed the presence of a woman in that area. One guest actually heard a woman laugh gently in the hallway as they were taking a bath with the door closed.

None of our guests have ever felt threatened by the ghost/spirit, so we’ve never thought much about it over the seven years we’ve lived in our home. I don’t usually see spirits, nor do I connect with souls on the Astral Plane. My spirit guides reside on the Causal Plane and don’t manifest in physical form the way Astral Plane spirits do. 

But after a week of tapping on the guest room door, plus me physically seeing something, I checked with my spirit guides to see what was going on. Turns out the ghost was the spirit of the matriarch who built this home with her husband back in the late 60’s and lived here until she died. She was a much beloved schoolteacher, and had an open door policy in the home for her students. We’ve had several guests over the years recount happy memories of their time spent in the house with Mrs. Froehning. 

My spirit guides said she’s been lingering simply because she loves this home, and it’s made her very happy to see how much we also love it here, and the happy times we’ve had with the many guests who’ve visited. Long story short, I released her to the light through a little ritual, and we’ve not seen or heard from her since. While we’re happy she’d been enjoying sticking around, it was time for her to move on and into her next incarnation. That said, who knows – maybe we’ll hear from her again. She had such a kind and loving energy, it wouldn’t be the worst thing.
