Hi there, Christine here from Ainslie’s SoulWorld team. Someone asked the question the other day, “What is a soulmate?”
We had an interesting conversation about that with Ainslie, and we figured if it’s a topic that interests us, it’s likely a topic that will interest you.
So, on a rainy afternoon, we sat down with Ainslie and a video camera to ask the following questions:
- What is a soulmate?
- What’s the difference between a soulmate and an old friend?
- Are soulmate relationships always karmic?
- What happens if we can’t balance the karma we have with our soulmate?
You’ll find his answers in the video below.
After watching this video, if you have other questions about soulmates, post them in the comment section below, and we’ll try to get them answered.
A soulmate is somebody that you’ve known in previous lifetimes. It’s a member of your soul family, which is pretty huge. There’s a lot of people, a lot of souls that belong to that.
My Spirit Guides generally feel that the term “soulmate” is a little loaded, because people have a lot of expectations about what it means to meet a soulmate. So they generally prefer to use the term “old friend.”
But when they do talk about soulmate, they mean it’s somebody that you’ve got a romantic agreement with.
The difference between a soulmate and an old friend is that a soulmate is an old friend. For somebody to be a soulmate, they have to be a member of your soul family. They have to be somebody that you’ve known in previous lifetimes.
When we use the term soulmate, it generally implies that there’s going to be a romantic connection there. But not always.
We can meet the people we’re deeply connected with, and still consider them to be soulmates. They can be family members, or somebody we know as a friend.
Sometimes what complicates the whole soulmate issue is that a lot of times people come into this life, souls come into this life to work on karma together. And very often, they’ll choose the romantic relationship to do that in.
A soulmate relationship isn’t always karmic. You can have plenty of relationships with a soulmate where no karma exists.
Simply put, that means that there’s no unpleasant stuff, maybe from past lives, or issues that you need to work on. Sometimes it’s actually very good. It’s a real opportunity to work on things like big lessons together.
It might be around developing trust, or building a family, or something like that. So they’re not always karmic, but they certainly can be.
And sometimes when it is karmic, that’s when you have that feeling, “I can’t live with them, I can’t live without them.”
Well that’s a good question, what if you have a karmic relationship and you can’t work it out?
There’s no obligation spiritually, you don’t have to work it out. You don’t have to complete something in this life. And sometimes it just doesn’t work.
People sometimes stay in a very challenging relationship because they feel that they’re kind of meant to. But, you can always have another crack at it. You can come back again in another life and give it another try.
Sometimes things are just too hard to really work it out in this life. Despite the best efforts that your souls’ might make. Despite the best intentions.
And that’s ok!
