How Past Life Trauma Shows Up in Your Current Life (And How to Heal It)

Have you ever wondered why you have a fear that doesn’t match anything you’ve experienced in this lifetime? Or why certain physical ailments seem to defy medical explanation?

After working as a past life psychic for over two and a half decades, I can tell you with absolute certainty: the answer often lies in your soul’s past. I get two questions all the time about past lives. The first is, “Are past lives always tragic?” And the second is, “Why do we even need to care about them?”

Let me share what I’ve learned.

The Dramatic Past Lives Are the Ones That Stick

To say that your past lives aren’t always happy would be an understatement. The past lives I investigate are usually pretty grim – full of unfairness, disappointment, hardship, fear, loss, and general misery.

Now, these may not be typical of most past lives. But here’s the thing: it’s the dramatic ones that stand out. They’re the ones that have the biggest impact on your soul and show up most powerfully in this life.

You might have had dozens of quiet, peaceful lifetimes. But it’s the life where you were persecuted, betrayed, or died traumatically that your soul remembers most vividly. And those memories show up today as fears, phobias, blocks, and even physical ailments.

How Past Life Trauma Shows Up (It’s Pretty Predictable)

Once you understand the patterns, you start seeing them everywhere. Let me give you some examples:

If you had a series of short, disappointing lives, your soul fears an early demise or failure in this one. This shows up as a sense of urgency – feeling like there’s something you need to be doing, but not quite knowing what. You get the headless chicken syndrome, running around looking all flapping and busy, but not really getting anywhere. Or sometimes it’s the opposite: procrastination and a feeling of “what’s the point?”

Major loss from an earlier life – losing children, family, home, everything (usually wartime) – causes older souls to fear that something awful will happen to their children in this lifetime. In younger souls, this same trauma manifests as greed. This is why you see billionaires compelled to amass huge fortunes they could never spend.

Betrayal in a past life creates mistrust in this one. Simple as that.

Persecution for your beliefs or for who you were creates a fear of standing out or speaking your truth. I had this one myself – a huge fear of judgment. For thirty years, I avoided speaking in public. After doing the past life work, I went from never talking in public to actually loving it. Now I joke that I’m making up for lost time.

Physical Ailments with Past Life Roots

This surprises a lot of people, but many physical issues have past life origins. My spirit guides call these “Achilles body parts.”

One of the most fascinating ones is constipation, especially when traveling. It’s often linked to bleeding to death on a battlefield. It’s all about loss of control – your soul remembers losing its life force with nothing you could do about it. So when you’re in an unfamiliar environment now, your soul clamps down.

Chronic neck and shoulder pain? I often find it’s related to beheading or hanging in a past life. I’ve seen this pain completely disappear once the person is simply reminded of the events.

Asthma, especially childhood asthma, is frequently connected to lung issues like tuberculosis in a past life. If you had it as a child but it disappeared in adulthood, this is often why.

Autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto’s or psoriasis often trace back to past lives where illness caused death. When a soul has gone through something like plague or tuberculosis, it can develop a deep fear of sickness that lingers into the present. The soul becomes overly vigilant, reacting strongly to even small sensations – “I’ve got a headache, it must be cancer.” That kind of fear-based hyper-alertness can contribute to autoimmune reactions as the soul tries, mistakenly, to protect you from danger.

Do you always get colds that go straight to your throat? Pain on the same side of your body? These patterns are real signs of past-life trauma.

All Phobias Are Past Life Memories

From my spirit guides’ perspective, a phobia is simply a death-related fear – your soul making an immediate association between an experience and death.

Fear of public speaking? That’s the result of judgment followed by execution in a past life.

Fear of water? Drowning.

Fear of enclosed spaces? Imprisonment, restraint, being shackled.

Fear of heights can come from falling – off a horse, out of a window. But it can also result from sudden death by explosion on the battlefield, where the soul is almost left hanging as the body instantly disappears.

Why Siblings React Differently to the Same Trauma

Here’s something I’ve talked about before: you can have two siblings experience the exact same traumatic event – their house burns down, they lose everything. One develops a lifelong fear of fire, while the other seems relatively unaffected.

The difference? Their past lives.

How you react to current-life trauma depends entirely on what’s being triggered from your soul’s past. This is one of the many reasons why past life healing is so important.

The Healing Power of Understanding Your Past

The wonderful thing about exploring past lives is that it leads to profound healing. Phobias often clear up completely. Lifelong issues like procrastination can disappear sometimes in days.

Why? Because once your soul is reminded of what happened – once you can say “that was then, this is now” – it releases its grip on the fear. Your soul doesn’t naturally separate one lifetime from the next. When you help it understand the threat is in the past, not the present, healing can finally occur.

One powerful approach I’ve discovered is combining past life healing with nervous system regulation techniques. When you’re triggered and suspect it’s past life related, try this: breathe in through your nose for a count of four, exhale through your mouth for a count of six. Do this several times to regulate your nervous system. Then remind your soul: “That was then, this is now. I’m safe.” This simple breathing technique interrupts the fight-or-flight response and creates space for your soul to integrate the new information.

For deeper work, identify the root cause through past life regression, then create a regular practice of nervous system regulation. You’re addressing both the soul level and the physical level, and that combination creates massive transformation.

Looking Forward

I truly believe that in a hundred years – maybe sooner – a visit to the doctor’s office will include an exploration of your past lives and how they contribute to your physical and emotional health. We’re already seeing medicine acknowledge the mind-body connection. The next step is understanding the soul-body connection.

Your past lives affect you in every way imaginable. I encourage you to think about the challenges you face in this life. Look for patterns. Notice where you overreact in ways that don’t match the actual situation. These are often breadcrumbs leading back to your soul’s past.

And remember: this is the only lifetime where you’ll be you, with your unique opportunities. Why wouldn’t you want to make the most of it by healing what holds you back?

I haven’t had healing through past life work. I think my ailment is whenever Ive had a cold it has always gone to my throat or nose since childhood. I’ve always been sensitive to bad smells I thought this was because of my autism but maybe it’s to do with a past life. I used to be frightened of fireworks, an airshow, the dark, and getting an injection with a needle at the doctors and dentist when I was a child even though nothing bad happened at these events. Once I was frightened of a ghost when one of my clasmates said there’s a ghost down the drain at the primary school when I was 6.
